Guard's daughter scores 93.28%

HUBLI: The five-member family of security guard Shekappa Gali jostles for space in a two-room house measuring not more than 10x20 sqft. But that was no dampener for Kavita Gali from securing distinction in the SSLC exam.
Kavita, a Kannada-medium student of Govt High School in Halakusugal village, about 12 km from here, has made her family proud by scoring 93.28% (583 out of 625 marks).Her score card: 124 (out of 125 in Kannada), 95 each in English and Hindi, 79 in Maths, 91 in Science and 99 in Social Science.
"I'm happy with her success in SSLC. Only some of my relatives have studied up to SSLC, but nobody has scored high marks like she did," said Shekappa, who earns Rs 4,000 a month.
Her classteacher Shobha G said Kavita was a dedicated student.
"Kavita studied without wasting time and without going for tuitions. We did not burden her with household chores," he added.
Expressing happiness over the results, Kavita thanked her parents and teachers for their encouragement. She wants to take up Science in PU and become a doctor.
